MAZDA3 SP25 GT Review

If you need more reasons why Mazda is unarguably Australia’s hottest selling car brand, then take a look at their new offering – the sleek MAZDA3 SP25 GT. Launched in February 2014, the new car carries the expectation of living up to the benchmark set by its past predecessors. Here we analyse if it does manage to deliver.

Engine performance

Engine performance and driveability gets a big thumbs up from StreetFleet. The more time you spend behind the wheel of this car, the more remarkable it gets. Starting with the six-speed automatic transmission and the paddles put up on the steering wheel, it cannot get more comfortable than this. The 2.5 litre Skyactive engine handle rough terrain, steep climbs and sharp bends with relative ease.

On the road, the car gives the feeling of a sturdy mid-range vehicle. At 138kW and 250Nm torque, the engine does perform beautifully for the smaller frame of the car. Driving aficionados would definitely want a diesel variant which is currently missing from the lineup. With a kerb weight of 1325 kg, it is lighter than Mazda’s previous releases. Combined with the feather light steering wheel and the perfect level of pedal pressures, it comes across as an ideal driving companion for the city roads.

Safety

Reverse parking camera, dual zone climate control, six airbags, ABS, hill launch assist and emergency stop assist justifies the 5-star ANCAP rating. Additional safety features form a part of the premium i-Activesense series with smart city brake support and blind spot tracking.

Pricing

At $25,890 (for standard six speed manual), $30,590 (for GT manual) and $38,190 (for automatic variant), the car does live up to its brand name and delivers a stupendous performance
